Tweets Not Loading

Twitter / X Social Media App

Severity: Minor

What Does This Error Mean?

When tweets won't load, your timeline appears blank or stuck. This is usually caused by a poor internet connection or a glitch in the app. A quick refresh or restart almost always fixes it.

Affected Models

  • Twitter for iPhone
  • Twitter for Android
  • Twitter Web
  • X App

Common Causes

  • Weak or unstable internet connection
  • Twitter/X servers are temporarily overloaded
  • The app has a minor glitch and needs a restart
  • The app's cached data is outdated or corrupted
  • Your browser needs to be refreshed or updated

How to Fix It

  1. Pull down on your timeline to manually refresh it.

On the web, press F5 or Ctrl+R to refresh the page.

  2. Check your internet connection — try loading another website or app.

If other sites load slowly too, your internet is the problem, not Twitter.

  3. Close the Twitter app completely and reopen it.

On iPhone, swipe up from the bottom and swipe the app away. On Android, tap the square button and swipe it closed.

  4. Clear the app's cache in your phone settings, then reopen Twitter.

Go to Settings > Apps > Twitter > Storage > Clear Cache.

  5. If using a browser, clear your browser cache and cookies, then reload twitter.com.

In Chrome: press Ctrl+Shift+Delete, select 'Cached images and files', then clear.

When to Call a Professional

Tweets not loading is almost always a temporary issue you can fix yourself. If the problem has lasted more than 24 hours, check Twitter's official status page at status.twitterstat.us.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why is my Twitter timeline showing old tweets?

Twitter may be showing cached content because it can't reach its servers. Pull down to force a refresh. If that doesn't work, clear the app cache and try again.

Twitter loads on Wi-Fi but not on mobile data — why?

Some mobile carriers block or throttle social media apps. Try turning off Wi-Fi and using data, or vice versa. Also check that Twitter isn't restricted in your phone's data settings.

My timeline loads but shows 'Something went wrong' on some tweets — what is this?

Those tweets may have been deleted or made private by their author. Or Twitter had a brief error fetching that specific content. Refreshing usually makes these messages go away.
