Error Code 3000

Zoom Zoom

Severity: Moderate

What Does This Error Mean?

Zoom Error Code 3000 is a camera access error. It means Zoom cannot access or use your webcam. This is usually caused by another app using the camera at the same time, or Windows blocking Zoom from using the camera. Closing other camera apps and checking Windows permissions fixes this in most cases.

Affected Models

  • Zoom on Windows 10
  • Zoom on Windows 11

Common Causes

  • Another application (like Teams, Skype, or a camera app) is using the camera and has not released it
  • Windows privacy settings are blocking Zoom from accessing the camera
  • The webcam driver is outdated or has become corrupted
  • The camera was physically disconnected or is not recognized by Windows
  • Zoom's video settings are pointing to a camera that is no longer available

How to Fix It

  1. Close all other apps that might be using your camera — Teams, Skype, Google Meet, Windows Camera app, OBS, etc. Even apps minimized to the taskbar can hold the camera.

Only one app can typically use the camera at a time. If another app is using it, Zoom cannot access it.

  2. Check Windows camera privacy settings. Go to Settings > Privacy > Camera. Make sure 'Allow apps to access your camera' is On, and scroll down to make sure Zoom is in the allowed list.

A Windows update can sometimes reset these permissions to Off.

  3. In Zoom, go to Settings > Video. Check which camera is selected in the dropdown. If you have multiple cameras listed, try switching to a different one.

If your camera shows in the list but the preview is black, try the driver update step next.

  4. Update your webcam driver. Open Device Manager (press Windows+X, select Device Manager). Expand 'Cameras' or 'Imaging devices', right-click your webcam, and select Update driver.

An outdated driver can cause the camera to appear in the list but fail when an app tries to use it.

  5. Restart Zoom. If the error persists, restart your computer. A reboot forces all apps to release any locked devices including the camera.

If a previous Zoom session crashed, the camera may still be locked. Only a restart fully releases it.

When to Call a Professional

Camera access errors are almost always software-related and fixable yourself. If your camera does not work in any application (not just Zoom), the webcam may be physically faulty. In that case, try connecting a different USB webcam to confirm whether the hardware is the issue.

Frequently Asked Questions

My camera works in the Windows Camera app but not in Zoom. Why?

If the Windows Camera app can use your camera, the hardware is fine. The problem is that another app was likely still using the camera when you opened Zoom. Close all other camera apps completely, then restart Zoom. WindowsCamera app must also be fully closed — not just minimized.

Does Error Code 3000 mean my webcam is broken?

Not necessarily. If the camera works in the Windows Camera app or another video call app, the hardware is fine. Error 3000 specifically means Zoom could not access it at that moment — usually because another app has it locked. Try the steps above before assuming the hardware is faulty.

I only have one camera but Zoom shows multiple cameras in the list. Which one do I pick?

Multiple entries for one camera usually appear when the camera has both a standard and a high-definition mode, or when virtual camera software (like OBS Virtual Camera) is installed. Select the entry that shows your actual camera name (usually something like 'Integrated Webcam' or your brand name like 'Logitech C920'). Avoid selecting entries labeled 'Virtual' unless you intentionally want to use a virtual camera.
