Production Meter Not Working / Incorrect Readings
Enphase Microinverter
Severity:What Does This Error Mean?
Enphase production meter issues are usually caused by the IQ Gateway losing its internet connection (data cannot upload to Enlighten) or the production CT (current transformer) clamp being installed incorrectly. Check the IQ Gateway LED — green means reporting; red or dark means no connection.
Affected Models
- Enphase IQ Gateway with CT sensors
- Enphase IQ Combiner 4C
- Enphase Envoy-S Metered
- All Enphase systems with production monitoring
Common Causes
- IQ Gateway offline — production data is recorded but not uploaded to Enlighten while offline
- CT sensor clamp not installed or installed on the wrong conductor
- CT sensor clamp installed backwards (reversed polarity) — shows negative or zero production
- Enlighten reporting delay — up to 15 minutes of lag in live production display
- CT sensor wiring damaged or loose inside the IQ Combiner box
How to Fix It
-
Check the IQ Gateway connection status.
Look at the IQ Gateway LED — a solid or blinking green light means it is connected and reporting data to Enlighten. A red or dark LED means the gateway is offline and data is not being uploaded. See the IQ Gateway Blinking Red page for steps to restore the gateway connection.
-
Allow for the Enlighten reporting delay.
Enphase Enlighten updates production data approximately every 15 minutes — it does not show true real-time data. If you check the app immediately after the system should be producing, you may see a gap. Wait 15–20 minutes after sunrise before concluding there is a metering problem.
-
Check the production CT sensor orientation.
The production CT sensor (a clamp around the AC output conductor) must face the correct direction — an arrow on the CT clamp indicates the direction of current flow. If the CT is installed backwards, the gateway reads negative production (showing consumption) or zero. This is an installer task — contact your solar installer to verify CT orientation in the combiner box.
-
Compare microinverter production with meter readings.
In the Enlighten app, go to System → Energy → compare the sum of individual microinverter production reports with the meter total. If individual microinverters show production but the production meter shows zero, the CT sensor is the problem. If microinverters also show zero, the issue is with solar production itself, not metering.
-
Restart the IQ Gateway to refresh meter readings.
Unplug the IQ Gateway from power, wait 30 seconds, and reconnect. After the gateway restarts and reconnects (3–5 minutes), the production meter readings should update correctly in Enlighten. A gateway restart also clears any temporary firmware state that can cause the production meter to display stale or stuck readings.
When to Call a Professional
CT sensor installation inside the IQ Combiner box involves AC wiring and should only be checked or adjusted by a licensed electrician or Enphase-certified installer.
