Display Not Working
Fronius Solar Inverter
Severity: MinorWhat Does This Error Mean?
Fronius inverter display not working usually means the backlight has timed out (normal), the display is in sleep mode, or the inverter has powered down for the night. The system continues to produce power even when the display is off. If the display is blank during peak solar hours with no button response, a power supply or display fault may have occurred.
Affected Models
- Fronius Primo
- Fronius Symo
- Fronius Galvo
- Fronius SnapINverter Series
Common Causes
- Display backlight automatically turned off after inactivity — press any button to wake it
- Inverter in night mode — shuts the display off after dark to save power
- Inverter has shut down due to a fault — display off because the inverter itself is off
- Display contrast or brightness setting has been lowered
- Display hardware fault after a lightning surge or voltage spike
How to Fix It
-
Press the display button to wake it.
Fronius inverter displays turn off automatically after a period of inactivity to extend backlight life. Press any button on the front panel — the display wakes immediately. If it wakes normally, there is no fault.
-
Check the time of day.
Fronius inverters automatically turn the display off at night when there is no solar production. The display turns back on automatically at sunrise. A blank display after dark is completely normal.
-
Check Solar.web to confirm whether the inverter is producing power.
Log in to solarweb.com and check the current power output. If the inverter is reporting production normally on Solar.web, the display fault is cosmetic only — the inverter is working. If Solar.web shows no production during daylight, the inverter itself has stopped.
-
Power cycle the inverter.
Switch off the solar AC isolator, then the DC isolator at the inverter. Wait 2 minutes. Turn DC back on, then AC. The display should illuminate on startup. If the display remains dark after restart but Solar.web shows production, the display or its backlight has failed.
-
Check the display contrast settings.
On Fronius Primo and Symo models, the display contrast can be adjusted in the setup menu. If the contrast has been accidentally set very low, the screen appears blank. Navigate: Menu → Setup → Display → Contrast.
When to Call a Professional
If the display does not respond to button presses during daylight hours and Solar.web shows no production, the inverter may have experienced an internal fault. Contact Fronius support or your installer.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is my solar system still working if the Fronius display is blank?
Most likely yes. The display turning off is usually normal behaviour — either night mode, inactivity timeout, or a cosmetic display fault. Check Solar.web to confirm production — it is a more reliable indicator than the display.
Can a Fronius inverter display be replaced?
Yes, the display module on most Fronius inverter models is a replaceable part. Contact Fronius support with your model and serial number for the correct replacement part number and a licensed technician to fit it.
