Fronius Solar Inverter

Severity: Minor

What Does This Error Mean?

Fronius inverter not connecting to Solar.web means the Datamanager card inside the inverter has lost its internet connection. The inverter continues to produce power normally — only the monitoring data is not reaching the cloud. The most common cause is a changed Wi-Fi password or router replacement.

Affected Models

  • Fronius Primo
  • Fronius Symo
  • Fronius Galvo
  • Fronius SnapINverter Series
  • Fronius GEN24 Plus

Common Causes

  • Home Wi-Fi router replaced or SSID/password changed after installation
  • Fronius Datamanager assigned a fixed IP address that conflicts with another device
  • Wi-Fi signal at the inverter location is too weak after router was moved
  • Internet outage at the property lasting long enough to expire the Solar.web session
  • Datamanager card firmware update failed and the card needs a reboot

How to Fix It

  1. Check the Datamanager's connection to your local network.

Log into your router's admin page and look at the connected devices list. The Fronius Datamanager will appear as 'fronius' or 'FRONIUS' with a local IP address. If it is not listed, the Datamanager is not connected to your Wi-Fi.

  2. Re-enter Wi-Fi credentials using the Datamanager hotspot.

If your Wi-Fi password or router was changed, the Datamanager needs new credentials. Power on the inverter and wait 5 minutes. The Datamanager will broadcast a Wi-Fi hotspot named 'Fronius_XXXXXXXX'. Connect your laptop or phone to this hotspot, then go to http://192.168.250.181 to access the setup wizard and enter your new Wi-Fi details.

  3. Change the Datamanager IP to DHCP (automatic).

If the Datamanager was given a fixed IP address during installation and that address is now used by another device, a conflict prevents it from connecting. In the Datamanager setup page, go to Network → IP address → select DHCP (Automatic) and save.

  4. Move the Wi-Fi router closer or add an access point.

The Fronius Datamanager's Wi-Fi radio is not very powerful. If the inverter is in a garage or outbuilding, the signal from the main router may be marginal. A Wi-Fi extender or access point near the inverter improves reliability significantly.

  5. Check Solar.web after restoring the Wi-Fi connection.

Once the Datamanager reconnects to the internet, Solar.web automatically receives the cached production data from the period it was offline (up to 365 days of data is cached internally). Allow 30 minutes for the backfill to complete.

When to Call a Professional

If the Datamanager does not appear on the local network after a power cycle and router check, the card may have failed. Contact your installer or Fronius support.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does the Fronius Datamanager store data when offline?

The Fronius Datamanager 2.0 stores up to 365 days of internal production data. Once connectivity is restored, this data uploads to Solar.web automatically. You will not lose historical production data for offline periods up to one year.

Can I monitor my Fronius inverter locally without an internet connection?

Yes. The Fronius inverter's local web interface is accessible from any device on your home network via http://fronius.local or the inverter's IP address. This shows real-time and historical data even when Solar.web is unavailable.
