Door Locked
Bosch Washing Machine
Severity:What Does This Error Mean?
A Bosch washer door that will not open after the cycle is usually because water is still in the drum or the thermal door interlock needs 1–2 minutes to cool. Wait 2 minutes after the cycle ends — the lock releases automatically.
Affected Models
- Bosch Serie 2 Washer
- Bosch Serie 4 Washer
- Bosch Serie 6 Washer
- Bosch Serie 8 Washer
- Bosch Logixx Washer
Common Causes
- Water still in the drum — machine will not unlock until drained
- Thermal door interlock needs 1–2 minutes to cool and release after the cycle
- Child lock active on the control panel
- Power outage mid-cycle left the lock engaged
- Failed door lock solenoid
How to Fix It
-
Wait 2 minutes after the cycle ends.
Bosch front-load washers use a thermal door interlock. After the cycle, the interlock takes 1–2 minutes to cool and release. The door lock light on the display will go out when the interlock releases.
-
Check that the drum has drained.
If water is visible through the door, the machine has not drained. Clean the pump filter and run the Drain programme to remove the water. The door will not unlock while water is in the drum.
-
Check for Child Lock.
Bosch Child Lock prevents the door from opening and disables all buttons. Look for a key icon on the display. To deactivate: hold the Child Lock button combination for 3–5 seconds (see your model's manual).
-
Use the emergency door release.
If power was lost mid-cycle, open the pump filter access panel at the bottom of the machine. On most Bosch models there is a small orange or coloured cord inside the panel. Pull this cord firmly to manually release the door lock.
When to Call a Professional
If the drum is empty, child lock is off, and the door still will not open after 5 minutes, the door lock solenoid has failed and needs replacement.
