Not Draining

Bosch Washing Machine

Severity: Critical

What Does This Error Mean?

A Bosch washing machine that will not drain almost always has a blocked pump filter. Open the bottom access panel, unscrew the filter cap, and clear out all lint, coins, and debris.

Affected Models

  • Bosch Serie 2 Washer
  • Bosch Serie 4 Washer
  • Bosch Serie 6 Washer
  • Bosch Serie 8 Washer

Common Causes

  • Blocked pump filter — by far the most common cause on Bosch washers
  • Kinked or blocked drain hose
  • Drain hose too deep in standpipe creating siphon
  • Blocked household drain standpipe
  • Failed drain pump motor

How to Fix It

  1. Clean the pump filter.

Open the access panel at the bottom front of the machine. Place towels and a shallow tray underneath. Slowly unscrew the round filter cap. Remove the filter and clear all debris. Replace and run the Drain programme.

  2. Check the drain hose.

Inspect the corrugated drain hose at the back for kinks. Ensure it is not pushed more than 15 cm into the standpipe. Also confirm the hose loops up to at least 60 cm above floor level before dropping to the standpipe.

  3. Test the standpipe.

Pour water into the standpipe to confirm it drains freely. A slow standpipe means the household drain is blocked — not the Bosch washer.

When to Call a Professional

If the pump filter is clean and the drain hose is clear but the machine still will not drain, the pump motor has failed and needs professional replacement.
