Not Spinning

Bosch Washing Machine

Severity: Critical

What Does This Error Mean?

If your Bosch washing machine is not spinning, redistribute the laundry evenly and ensure the machine has drained fully. An unbalanced load stops the spin cycle automatically as a safety measure.

Affected Models

  • Bosch Serie 2 Washer
  • Bosch Serie 4 Washer
  • Bosch Serie 6 Washer
  • Bosch Serie 8 Washer

Common Causes

  • Unbalanced load — clothes bunched on one side
  • Machine has not drained — water weight prevents spin
  • Door not fully closed — safety interlock prevents spin
  • Spin speed set to No Spin accidentally
  • Worn drum bearings or brush motor fault

How to Fix It

  1. Redistribute the laundry.

Open the door and spread the clothes evenly around the drum. Bosch washers are very sensitive to imbalance — a single heavy item such as a duvet or jeans can prevent the spin from reaching full speed.

  2. Check that the machine has drained.

If water is visible in the drum, the machine will not spin. Clean the pump filter and run a Drain programme to remove the water before attempting the spin.

  3. Check the spin speed setting.

Look at the spin speed selector. If it is set to No Spin (the symbol with a horizontal line and no number), turn it to an appropriate speed — at least 800 RPM for most loads.

  4. Run a Spin Only programme.

Select Spin from the programme dial to run a spin-only cycle. This tests the spin in isolation without the wash and rinse stages.

When to Call a Professional

If the machine drains fully, the load is balanced, the door closes properly, and the machine still will not spin, the motor brushes, drum bearings, or control board has failed — contact a Bosch-authorised technician.
