Not Draining

Electrolux Washing Machine

Severity: Critical

What Does This Error Mean?

An Electrolux washing machine that will not drain almost always has a clogged pump filter. Open the access panel at the bottom front, unscrew the filter cap, and clear out all lint, coins, and debris.

Affected Models

  • Electrolux Front Load Washer
  • Electrolux Top Load Washer
  • Electrolux EWF Series Washer
  • Electrolux PerfectCare Washer

Common Causes

  • Blocked pump filter — the most common cause
  • Kinked or blocked drain hose
  • Drain hose insertion too deep — siphon effect
  • Blocked household drain standpipe
  • Failed drain pump motor

How to Fix It

  1. Clean the pump filter.

Open the front access panel at the bottom of the machine. Place towels and a tray underneath. Unscrew the filter cap slowly and let water drain. Remove the filter and clear all debris. Refit and run a Drain/Spin programme.

  2. Check the drain hose.

Inspect the corrugated drain hose at the back. Straighten any kinks. Ensure the hose does not enter the standpipe more than 15 cm — a deeper insertion creates a siphon that prevents drainage.

  3. Test the household standpipe.

Pour water into the standpipe to confirm it flows freely. A slow standpipe is a plumbing issue — contact a plumber rather than an appliance technician.

When to Call a Professional

If the filter is clean and the drain hose is clear but the machine still will not drain, the drain pump motor has failed and needs professional replacement.
