Not Spinning
LG Washing Machine
Severity: CriticalWhat Does This Error Mean?
If your LG washing machine is not spinning, check the load balance first. Redistributing the laundry evenly in the drum fixes the problem in the majority of cases.
Affected Models
- LG Front Load Washer
- LG Top Load Washer
- LG WashTower
- LG ThinQ Washer
Common Causes
- Unbalanced load — clothes bunched on one side
- Machine has not drained — water weight prevents spin
- Lid or door not fully closed — safety interlock active
- Spin speed accidentally set to No Spin
- Worn drum bearings or failed motor
How to Fix It
-
Redistribute the laundry.
Open the door and spread the clothes evenly around the drum. Single heavy items or tangled laundry are the number one cause of failed spins on LG washers.
-
Check that the machine has drained.
If the machine is full of water, it will not spin. Clean the pump filter and run a Drain/Spin cycle to remove the water before trying again.
-
Check the spin speed setting.
Look at the control panel. If Spin Speed shows No Spin or 0 RPM, press the Spin Speed button to select an appropriate speed — 1200 RPM or higher for cotton loads.
-
Run Spin Only.
Select Spin Only from the program selector and start the cycle. This tests the spin in isolation, bypassing the wash and drain stages.
When to Call a Professional
If the machine drains fully, the load is balanced, and the machine still will not spin — or if the drum makes a loud rumbling noise — the drum bearings have worn out and need professional replacement.
