Not Spinning
Miele Washing Machine
Severity: CriticalWhat Does This Error Mean?
If your Miele washing machine is not spinning, redistribute the laundry and ensure the drum has drained fully. Miele washers automatically cancel the spin if the load is unbalanced or if water remains in the drum.
Affected Models
- Miele W Series Front Load Washer
- Miele WDD Series Washer
- Miele WCR Series Washer
- Miele TwinDos Washer
- Miele PowerWash Washer
Common Causes
- Unbalanced load — clothes concentrated on one side of the drum
- Machine has not drained — water weight prevents spin
- Spin speed set to No Spin or Gentle
- Door not fully closed — safety interlock prevents spin
- Worn drum bearings or motor fault on older machines
How to Fix It
-
Redistribute the laundry.
Open the door and spread the clothes evenly around the drum. Miele machines are precision-built and very sensitive to imbalance — single heavy items like towels or a duvet need to be paired with lighter items.
-
Check that the machine has drained.
If water is visible in the drum, the machine will not spin. Clean the pump filter and run a Short or Drain programme to remove the water before retrying the spin.
-
Check the spin speed setting.
On the Miele control dial, ensure the spin speed is not set to Off or to a delicate Gentle setting that limits RPM significantly. For cotton loads, a minimum of 1000 RPM is recommended.
-
Run a Short cycle to test spin.
Select a Short (Kurz) programme with a spin speed set. This runs a brief wash and spin. If the spin completes without issue, the machine is working correctly and the original problem was load balance or drainage.
When to Call a Professional
If the machine drains fully, the load is balanced, the door closes properly, and the machine still will not spin at all, the motor, control board, or drum bearings have failed — contact a Miele-authorised technician.
