Not Draining
Samsung Washing Machine
Severity: CriticalWhat Does This Error Mean?
Samsung washing machines that will not drain almost always have a clogged pump filter. Open the front access panel, unscrew the filter cap, remove debris, and rerun the cycle.
Affected Models
- Samsung Front Load Washer
- Samsung Top Load Washer
- Samsung AddWash Washer
- Samsung EcoBubble Washer
Common Causes
- Blocked pump filter — lint, coins, hairpins, or fabric
- Kinked drain hose at the back of the machine
- Drain hose pushed too deep into the standpipe
- Blocked household drain standpipe
- Failed drain pump
How to Fix It
-
Locate and open the pump filter access panel.
The filter is behind a small rectangular panel on the front bottom of the machine. Pry it open with a flat screwdriver. Place a shallow tray underneath before opening — water will come out.
-
Drain the emergency hose first.
Many Samsung models have a small emergency drain hose next to the filter cap. Pull out the stopper and let water drain into the tray before unscrewing the main filter cap. This prevents a large spill.
-
Remove and clean the filter.
Unscrew the filter cap counter-clockwise. Pull out the filter and remove all lint, coins, or hairpins. Rinse the filter under running water and reinsert it.
-
Check the drain hose.
Inspect the drain hose for kinks or blockages. The hose should be inserted no more than 15 cm into the standpipe. Ensure the hose is not pinched behind the machine.
When to Call a Professional
If cleaning the filter and checking the drain hose does not resolve the issue, the drain pump motor has failed and needs replacement by a technician.
