HMS_0500_0100
Bambu Lab 3D Printer
Severity:What Does This Error Mean?
HMS_0500_0100 on a Bambu Lab printer means the slicer detected the model exceeds the printable build volume. Open the file in Bambu Studio, scale the model down or split it into parts, then reslice and send the corrected file.
Affected Models
- Bambu Lab X1 Carbon
- Bambu Lab X1
- Bambu Lab P1S
- Bambu Lab P1P
- Bambu Lab A1
Common Causes
- Model imported in inches but loaded as millimetres (×25.4 too big)
- Model legitimately larger than the printer's 256×256×256 mm volume
- Auto-arrange placed parts too close to the build plate edge
- Skirt or brim extending past the printable area
How to Fix It
-
Open the project in Bambu Studio.
Use the Bambu Lab Studio software on your computer. Open the .3mf or original STL file.
-
Check model dimensions.
Click the model and look at the Object panel — the X, Y, Z dimensions are shown in millimetres. If the values are clearly wrong (e.g., 2540 instead of 100), the file was imported in the wrong unit.
-
Scale the model if needed.
Right-click the model > Scale. For unit-conversion errors (inches to mm), divide all dimensions by 25.4 (or set the scale factor to 0.0394). For oversized models, scale to fit within 256×256×256 mm.
-
Re-slice and send to printer.
Click Slice plate, then Print. The printer should now accept the job without HMS_0500_0100.
-
For models that genuinely don't fit, split them.
Use Bambu Studio's Cut tool to split a tall or wide model into pieces that each fit within the build volume. Glue or pin the pieces after printing.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the maximum print size on Bambu Lab printers?
The Bambu Lab X1 Carbon, X1, P1S, and P1P print up to 256×256×256 mm. The Bambu Lab A1 mini is smaller at 180×180×180 mm. Models exceeding these dimensions cause HMS_0500_0100.
Why did HMS_0500_0100 appear for a model that printed fine before?
If the same file printed successfully previously, check whether you accidentally enabled a brim or skirt that extends past the printable area, or moved the model toward the build plate edge. Re-centre and reslice.
