CH07
LG Air Conditioner
Severity: ModerateWhat Does This Error Mean?
CH07 means the indoor fan motor is reporting a fault — it either isn't spinning at the speed the board expects, or the board can't read its feedback signal at all.
Power the unit off at the breaker for 5 minutes and try again.
If the code returns within a minute, the motor or its control board needs a technician.
This isn't usually something to keep running through — extended operation with a bad fan motor can overheat the heat exchanger.
Affected Models
- LG dual inverter split
- LG art cool
- LG window inverter
- LG multi-zone indoor unit
Common Causes
- Indoor fan motor failed or seized
- Fan blade hitting something — debris, ice, dislodged insulation
- Motor wiring loose at the indoor PCB connector
- Indoor PCB fault — motor driver section damaged
- Hall-effect feedback wire broken inside the motor harness
How to Fix It
-
Power the indoor unit off at the breaker for 5 minutes.
A full power cycle is the first move on any LG fan-motor code.
Turning it off at the remote isn't enough — the indoor PCB needs to fully discharge.
Pull the breaker, wait, then restore power. -
Listen and look at the fan.
Turn the unit on after the reset.
Open the front panel and watch the fan blade.
If it tries to spin but stops, or makes a grinding sound, the motor bearings are gone.
If it doesn't move at all, the motor or its drive circuit is dead. -
Check for anything blocking the fan.
With the breaker still off, reach in and rotate the fan blade by hand.
It should spin freely with mild resistance.
If it grinds or won't turn, something is jammed — leaves, dust mat, ice from a clogged drain.
Clear it before powering back on. -
Inspect the indoor wiring connector.
If you're comfortable opening the cover, find the fan motor harness on the indoor PCB.
Unplug it and reseat it firmly.
Loose connectors are a common false-fault cause after years of vibration. -
Call a technician if CH07 returns.
If the code persists after a clean reset and a free-spinning fan, the motor or the indoor PCB needs replacement.
Both are technician-level repairs.
Don't keep cycling it on — the heat exchanger can overheat without airflow.
Frequently Asked Questions
Will the AC still cool with CH07 showing?
No — once CH07 latches, the compressor outdoor unit is also stopped to prevent damage.
Even if the indoor fan tries to spin, the system will refuse to run a full cycle until the code is cleared.
That's the protection working as designed.
Is CH07 expensive to fix?
An indoor fan motor on most LG splits runs around 80–150 USD for the part, plus an hour or two of labor.
If it turns out to be the indoor PCB instead, the part is closer to 200 USD.
A technician can usually tell which one it is in a quick visit.
