Filter Replacement

Alen Air Purifier

Severity: Minor

What Does This Error Mean?

The pink or red filter indicator on an Alen BreatheSmart air purifier means the HEPA filter has reached its rated service life — typically 6–12 months depending on usage. Remove and replace the filter, then press the Filter Reset button for 3 seconds to clear the indicator and restart the filter life counter.

Affected Models

  • Alen BreatheSmart 45i
  • Alen BreatheSmart 75i
  • Alen BreatheSmart FLEX
  • Alen T500

Common Causes

  • Filter has reached its rated service life based on runtime hours
  • Filter life counter was not reset after a previous filter change
  • Heavy use in a dusty or pet-heavy environment shortening filter life

How to Fix It

  1. Power off the unit and remove the magnetic front panel. The HEPA filter sits directly behind the panel — lift it out by the tab at the top.

Alen BreatheSmart filters are large and easy to access — the magnetic front panel detaches without tools. Handle the old filter gently to avoid releasing trapped particles back into the air.

  2. Check the replacement filter packaging to confirm it matches your model. Insert the new filter with the Alen logo facing outward. Reattach the front panel.

Alen offers several filter types (standard, fresh, smoke, and heavy-odor variants) — all physically fit the same machine but treat different air quality problems.

  3. Power on the unit. Press and hold the Filter Reset button for 3 seconds until the indicator turns off.

On 45i and 75i models the Filter Reset button is on the top control panel. If the indicator does not clear after 3 seconds, try holding for 5 seconds.

Frequently Asked Questions

How often should I replace the Alen BreatheSmart filter?

Alen recommends replacing the filter every 6–12 months. The unit tracks runtime hours and illuminates the pink indicator when the filter is due. Alen also offers a subscription filter delivery service so you never run out.
