Not Turning On
Coway Air Purifier
Severity:What Does This Error Mean?
Press and hold the Power button for 2 seconds — a short tap may not register. If the power button has no effect, check the wall socket and confirm the power cable is firmly connected. On Airmega smart models, check the IoCare app for a Child Lock or scheduled off setting that may be preventing the machine from responding to physical controls.
Affected Models
- Coway AP-1512HH (Mighty)
- Coway AP-1512HHS (Mighty Smart)
- Coway Airmega 200M
- Coway Airmega 300 / 400
- Coway Airmega ProX
Common Causes
- Wall socket switched off or circuit tripped
- Child Lock active — all physical controls disabled
- Filter not seated correctly — some models require a properly installed filter to start
- Machine in a fault state after a power cut
- Thermal protection activated after overheating — needs cooling time
How to Fix It
-
Test the wall socket with another device. Check the fuse box for a tripped breaker. Plug the Coway directly into the wall rather than through a power strip or extension lead.
Many power strips have an underrated total wattage — if multiple appliances are connected, the strip may limit power to the air purifier.
-
Check for Child Lock. On the Coway Mighty, hold the Power button and the Fan button together for 3 seconds to toggle Child Lock. On Airmega models, check the IoCare app for the lock setting.
Child Lock disables all buttons to prevent accidental changes. A lock icon on the display confirms Child Lock is active.
-
Remove and firmly reseat the filter. An improperly installed filter can trigger a safety interlock on some Coway models that prevents the machine from starting.
Ensure the filter is oriented correctly — Coway filters are directional and have an arrow or label indicating airflow direction.
-
Leave the machine unplugged for 20 minutes to reset any thermal protection state, then plug in and attempt startup again.
Coway purifiers have thermal cutouts that activate if the machine overheats. This most commonly happens in enclosed spaces with blocked air vents.
Frequently Asked Questions
Coway display turns on but the fan does not run — what does it mean?
The machine has power but the fan motor is not starting. This can be caused by a mode set to standby, a timer that has turned the fan off, or (rarely) a motor fault. Check the fan speed setting and any active schedules in the app. If the fan makes a humming or clicking sound without spinning, the motor or fan blade may need service.
