WiFi Not Connecting

Coway Air Purifier

Severity: Minor

What Does This Error Mean?

Coway Airmega purifiers connect to 2.4GHz WiFi only. If your router only broadcasts 5GHz, the Airmega cannot connect. Enable a 2.4GHz network on your router, then re-run the IoCare app setup.

Affected Models

  • Coway Airmega 300S
  • Coway Airmega 400S
  • Coway Airmega 150
  • Coway Airmega 200M

Common Causes

  • Router broadcasting 5GHz only — Coway Airmega requires 2.4GHz
  • Incorrect WiFi password entered during IoCare setup
  • Phone location permissions not granted to the IoCare app — required for WiFi scanning
  • IoCare app outdated
  • Router using WPA3 only — older Airmega models require WPA2

How to Fix It

  1. Confirm a 2.4GHz network is available.

Coway Airmega smart models connect only to 2.4GHz. Log into your router admin panel and confirm 2.4GHz is enabled. If your router uses band steering, try temporarily creating a separate 2.4GHz SSID with a unique name for the initial setup.

  2. Grant Location permission to the IoCare app.

On both iOS and Android, the IoCare app requires Location permission to scan for nearby WiFi networks during device setup. Go to your phone's Settings > IoCare > Permissions and enable Location (set to Always or While Using App). Without this permission, the app cannot find or select your WiFi network.

  3. Re-run the setup from Add Device in the IoCare app.

Open IoCare > tap the + icon > select your Airmega model. Stand within 6 feet of both the purifier and your router during setup. Follow each step carefully — the setup has a short timeout window where you must press the WiFi button on the purifier.

  4. Update the IoCare app.

An outdated IoCare app may fail the provisioning handshake with newer router security protocols. Update to the latest version and retry setup.

  5. Try WPA2 security mode.

If your router is set to WPA3 only, change it to WPA2/WPA3 compatibility mode and retry the Airmega setup. WPA3 is not supported on all Coway Airmega models.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the Coway Airmega work without WiFi?

Yes — the physical controls on all Airmega models work without WiFi. You can control power, fan speed, and modes manually using the touch panel. WiFi and the IoCare app add remote control, scheduling, and air quality history — they are optional features.

The IoCare app says setup failed at step 3 — what does that mean?

Step 3 failure in IoCare setup usually means the purifier connected to the app's temporary WiFi hotspot but then failed to join your home WiFi. The most common causes: wrong password, 5GHz-only network, or the purifier is too far from the router. Move the purifier within 10 feet of the router for the initial setup, then move it to its permanent location.
