App Not Connecting
Dyson Air Purifier
Severity: MinorWhat Does This Error Mean?
Dyson machines require a 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network — they do not connect to 5 GHz. If your phone is on 5 GHz during setup, the pairing will fail. Temporarily connect your phone to the 2.4 GHz network before opening the MyDyson app and adding the machine.
Affected Models
- Dyson Purifier Cool (TP07, TP09)
- Dyson Purifier Hot+Cool (HP07, HP09)
- Dyson Pure Cool Link (TP02, TP04)
- Any Dyson model with Wi-Fi connectivity
Common Causes
- Phone connected to 5 GHz Wi-Fi during setup — Dyson only supports 2.4 GHz
- Wi-Fi password changed since the machine was last paired
- Router changed or ISP replaced — machine still trying to connect to the old network
- The MyDyson app needs updating — an outdated app version may fail to communicate with newer firmware
- Machine firmware update in progress — temporarily unavailable
How to Fix It
-
Connect your phone to your 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network (not 5 GHz) before starting the pairing process. On most routers, the 2.4 GHz network has the same name as the 5 GHz but without a 5G suffix.
Dyson machines do not support 5 GHz or Wi-Fi 6E. If your router only broadcasts a combined network, check its settings to separate the bands temporarily.
-
In the MyDyson app, remove the machine from your account and add it again from scratch. Go to the machine settings and choose Remove machine, then follow the Add a machine flow.
Re-pairing forces the machine to receive the current Wi-Fi credentials fresh. This is required any time the Wi-Fi password changes or the router is replaced.
-
Reset the machine's Wi-Fi. Hold the power button on the machine (not the remote) for 20 seconds until the machine reboots. This clears the stored Wi-Fi credentials and puts it back into pairing mode.
The indicator light will flash after the reset to show the machine is ready to pair. Open the MyDyson app immediately and follow the setup steps while the machine is in pairing mode.
-
Update the MyDyson app to the latest version. Open the App Store or Google Play Store, search for MyDyson, and install any available update.
Dyson periodically updates the app's pairing protocol. An outdated app may fail to pair with machines that have received a firmware update.
Frequently Asked Questions
Dyson connected to Wi-Fi but shows offline in the app — why?
The machine may be on a different Wi-Fi network to your phone, or the router may be blocking device-to-device communication (AP isolation). Check your router settings for AP isolation or client isolation and disable it. Also ensure the machine and phone are on the same Wi-Fi network and subnet.
