Oscillation Not Working
Dyson Air Purifier
Severity: MinorWhat Does This Error Mean?
Oscillation on Dyson purifiers is toggled by pressing the Oscillation button on the remote (the arrows forming a circle). If it was accidentally switched off, one press turns it back on. You can also enable oscillation and set the sweep angle in the MyDyson app under machine settings.
Affected Models
- Dyson Purifier Cool (TP07, TP09)
- Dyson Purifier Hot+Cool (HP07, HP09)
- Dyson Pure Cool Link (TP02, TP04)
Common Causes
- Oscillation toggled off by a remote button press — easy to do accidentally
- Custom oscillation angle set to a very narrow range, making it appear to not be moving
- Machine placed on an uneven surface causing it to stop oscillating as a protection measure
- Firmware bug after an update — resolved by power cycling
How to Fix It
-
Press the oscillation button on the Dyson remote — it is the button showing two circular arrows. One press toggles oscillation on or off.
The MyDyson app also has an oscillation control. Open the app, select your machine, and check the oscillation setting on the control panel.
-
Check the oscillation angle setting in the MyDyson app. If the angle is set to a very narrow range (e.g. 45 degrees), the machine barely appears to move. Set it to 350 degrees for near-full rotation.
Newer Dyson models support custom oscillation angles from 45 to 350 degrees. A narrow angle set by accident can look like oscillation is broken.
-
Ensure the machine is on a flat, stable surface. An uneven or tilted surface can prevent the oscillation mechanism from completing its rotation.
Place the machine on a flat hard floor or table and try oscillation again.
-
Power cycle the machine. Turn it off at the socket, wait 30 seconds, and power back on. This resolves oscillation issues caused by firmware glitches after an update.
If oscillation fails to work after a power cycle and the remote button has no effect, the oscillation motor or gear mechanism may be faulty — contact Dyson support.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does the Dyson Pure Cool Me (BP01) oscillate?
Yes — the BP01 has a unique curved oscillation that deflects air in a wide arc without rotating the body. The oscillation button on the BP01 remote activates this feature. If it is not working, check the oscillation setting in the MyDyson app.
