Fan Not Working

Levoit Air Purifier

Severity:

What Does This Error Mean?

Check whether the Levoit is in Lock mode — press and hold the Lock button for 3 seconds to unlock all controls. Also check the fan speed setting: if it is set to Sleep mode or speed 1, the fan is nearly silent and very little airflow can be felt. If the fan makes a humming noise but does not spin, the filter may be blocking the airway — remove and reseat it.

Affected Models

  • Levoit Core 300
  • Levoit Core 400S
  • Levoit Core 600S
  • Levoit LV-H132
  • Levoit Vista series

Common Causes

  • Lock mode enabled — prevents the fan speed from being changed
  • Fan speed set to Sleep mode or minimum — very low airflow barely perceptible
  • Filter not installed or filter missing — some models block fan operation as a safety measure
  • Filter packaging not removed — wrapped filter blocks all airflow through the machine
  • Motor fault — rare but possible after extended use

How to Fix It

  1. Check for Lock mode. Press and hold the fan speed button or the Lock button (padlock icon) for 3 seconds until the lock indicator turns off.

Lock mode disables all control panel buttons. On the Core 300, holding the fan speed button for 3 seconds toggles Lock mode.

  2. Increase the fan speed. In Sleep mode or speed 1, the Levoit is nearly inaudible and produces minimal airflow. Press the fan speed button to cycle to speed 2 or 3 and confirm airflow increases.

Sleep mode on the Levoit Core series runs the fan at around 24 dB — quieter than a whisper. At this speed, airflow is only felt very close to the air outlet.

  3. Remove and reinstall the filter. Confirm the plastic packaging wrapper is completely removed. Reseat the filter firmly and ensure the back cover clicks into place.

A filter with its packaging still on blocks all airflow — the machine runs but no air passes through. This is the most common cause of a Levoit with a running motor but no felt airflow.

  4. If the fan makes a grinding or rattling noise, turn off and unplug the machine. Open the back panel and check for any debris (paper, insect) caught in the fan blades.

Small objects can be drawn in through the filter during installation. Remove any debris carefully with tweezers before restarting.

Frequently Asked Questions

Levoit fan is running but the air coming out feels cold — is this normal?

Yes — Levoit air purifiers do not heat the air. The air output will feel slightly cooler than room temperature because air is drawn from lower in the room (where it is naturally a bit cooler) and pushed out through the top. This is normal operation and not a fault.
