Filter Replacement Indicator

Levoit Air Purifier

Severity: Minor

What Does This Error Mean?

The filter replacement light on a Levoit air purifier is a timer-based reminder — it triggers after a set number of running hours, not from a sensor that measures actual filter condition. Replace the filter, then hold the filter reset button (usually the fan speed button or a dedicated reset button) for 3-5 seconds to clear the indicator.

Affected Models

  • Levoit Core 300
  • Levoit Core 400S
  • Levoit Core 600S
  • Levoit LV-H132
  • Levoit Vista series

Common Causes

  • The filter has reached its rated lifespan — typically 6-8 months at 12 hours of use per day
  • The filter reset button was not pressed after the last filter change, causing early retriggering
  • Heavy use (24/7 operation) or very dusty environment exhausted the filter faster than usual

How to Fix It

  1. Turn off and unplug the air purifier. Open the back panel and remove the old filter. Note the filter model number printed on the filter label.

Levoit filters are model-specific — a Core 300 filter does not fit a Core 400S. The model number is printed on the existing filter and in the user manual.

  2. Remove the plastic packaging from the new filter before inserting it — the protective wrap must be removed for the filter to work.

This is a common mistake — the filter looks the same with packaging on, but it will not purify air through the sealed plastic wrap.

  3. Insert the new filter, close the back panel, and plug the purifier back in.

Make sure the filter clicks or seats securely — a loose filter allows unfiltered air to bypass it.

  4. Reset the filter indicator. On most Levoit models, hold the fan speed button (or the dedicated filter reset button) for 3-5 seconds until the indicator light turns off.

The exact button varies by model — check the user manual if holding the fan button does not clear it. If you do not reset the indicator, the light will stay on even though the new filter is in place.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know if the filter really needs replacing or if the timer just triggered early?

Hold the filter up to a light source — a truly exhausted filter will be visibly grey or black with accumulated dust. If the filter still looks relatively clean, the timer may have triggered early because the indicator was not reset after a previous change. Reset the indicator and monitor the filter condition manually.

Can I wash and reuse a Levoit HEPA filter?

No — Levoit HEPA filters are not washable. Washing destroys the fine fibres that trap particles. Pre-filters (the outer mesh layer on some models) can be vacuumed gently to extend their life, but the main HEPA and activated carbon filter must be replaced.
