What Does This Error Mean?

A red ring or indicator on a Philips air purifier means the built-in AeraSense sensor has detected a high concentration of airborne particles or pollutants. The purifier is working — it boosts fan speed automatically to clean the air. The light transitions from red to orange to blue as air quality improves. If the red light stays on permanently in a clean room, the AeraSense sensor may need cleaning.

Common Causes

  • High particle concentration from cooking, candles, cleaning, or outdoor pollution coming in

How to Fix It

  1. Check what activity has been happening in the room. Cooking, burning candles, vacuuming, or opening windows during high outdoor pollution will trigger the red indicator.

    The red light in auto mode is normal — it means the sensor detected real pollution and the purifier is cleaning it. The light should shift to orange or blue within 15–30 minutes in a closed room.

  2. If the red light stays on in a clearly clean room, the AeraSense sensor may need cleaning. Locate the small sensor window on the side of the unit and gently clean around it with a dry cotton swab.

    Do not push the cotton swab inside the sensor port. Dust on the sensor lens makes it read high pollution permanently.

  3. If you are in a very polluted city or running the unit near a window, the red reading may be accurate. Close windows, run the purifier on turbo for 20 minutes, and the light should improve.
