Blinking Red
SodaStream Sparkling Water Maker
Severity:What Does This Error Mean?
A blinking or flashing red light on your SodaStream means the CO2 cylinder is almost empty. You can still get a few more uses out of it, but you need to exchange or refill the cylinder soon.
Affected Models
- SodaStream Source
- SodaStream Fizzi
- SodaStream Crystal
- SodaStream Terra
- SodaStream Art
Common Causes
- CO2 cylinder has been used many times and is nearly depleted
- Cylinder was not full when purchased or exchanged
How to Fix It
-
Use up the remaining CO2
You can continue making sparkling water until the cylinder is fully empty. The machine will still work — the blinking red is just a heads-up, not a lockout.
-
Exchange the cylinder
Take your empty SodaStream cylinder to a supermarket, kitchen store, or SodaStream retailer that participates in the exchange programme. You swap the empty for a full one at a discounted price.
-
Or order a refill/replacement online
SodaStream's website and many online retailers offer cylinder exchange by post. You mail the empty back and a full one arrives.
-
Insert the new cylinder and continue
Screw the new cylinder in firmly. The red blinking light should stop once the machine senses a full cylinder with proper pressure.
When to Call a Professional
No — simply exchange or refill the cylinder.
SodaStream Blinking Red Light — Low CO2
The blinking red light is SodaStream’s way of saying: time to get a new cylinder soon. It is not a fault — the machine is working perfectly. You just need more CO2.
How Many Uses Are Left?
When the red light starts blinking, you typically have between 1 and 10 uses left depending on carbonation level. The light gets more persistent as the cylinder empties further.
Cylinder Exchange Is Easy
SodaStream has exchange points in most major supermarkets and kitchen stores. You do not need to register or show proof of purchase — just bring the old cylinder and pay the exchange price (significantly less than buying a full new cylinder).
Frequently Asked Questions
How many litres does one SodaStream cylinder make?
A standard SodaStream 60L cylinder is rated for approximately 60 litres of sparkling water, but this varies with how fizzy you like it. More carbonation = more CO2 per bottle = fewer litres per cylinder.
Can I refill the cylinder myself instead of exchanging it?
SodaStream does not support DIY refilling of their cylinders — the cylinders are designed for professional refilling under controlled pressure. Self-refilling kits sold online are not endorsed by SodaStream and can be dangerous.
