Water Temperature Error

Kohler Bidet

Severity: Moderate

What Does This Error Mean?

Kohler bidets show a water temperature error when the instant heater detects out-of-range temperature — too hot, too cold, or sensor open.
Common causes: water inlet shut off, scale buildup on the heater element, or a thermistor fault.
Restore water supply, run a descaling cycle, and reset by power-cycling at the wall outlet.

Affected Models

  • Kohler Novita BH-90
  • Kohler Novita BH-93
  • Kohler PureWash E930
  • Kohler C3-455
  • Kohler C3-230

Common Causes

  • Water supply shut off (no flow to detect)
  • Inlet filter clogged
  • Limescale on the heater element (hard water areas)
  • Thermistor open or shorted
  • Heater overheat protection latched

How to Fix It

  1. Confirm water supply.

Check the bidet shut-off valve at the wall — usually behind the toilet.
    Make sure it's fully open.
The bidet needs steady water flow to test the heater.

  2. Clean the inlet filter.

Disconnect the water hose at the bidet's inlet.
A small mesh filter sits inside the inlet fitting.
Pull it out, rinse under tap water, reinstall.
This filter clogs faster in well-water or hard-water areas.

  3. Run a descale if needed.

If you live in a hard-water area, mineral scale builds on the heater element.
Some Kohler models have a self-clean function that uses citric acid.
Check your manual — running descaler through the system clears most heater faults.

  4. Power-cycle the bidet.

    Unplug from the wall.
    Wait 60 seconds.
    Plug back in.
The heater protection latches on the control board — power-cycle clears the latch.

  5. If error persists, book service.

Repeated water temperature errors after descaling and reset point to a thermistor failure or a heater module fault.
    Both are dealer-replaceable.
Don't try to open the heater housing — it's sealed and water-pressurised.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the cold water still safe to use during the error?

Cold water wash is unaffected on most models — the heater bypasses to feed unheated supply water.
Some models lock out wash entirely until the error clears.
Test by selecting cold mode on the remote.
