E2

Toto Bidet

Severity: Minor

What Does This Error Mean?

E2 on Toto Washlet means the air drying motor (which provides the warm-air drying function) has failed.
The wash function still works fine — only the dryer is affected.
Most often the motor bearings have worn after years of use.
This is an internal repair — service-tech work, 100-250 USD typical for motor replacement.
Use a towel for drying until repaired.

Affected Models

  • Toto Washlet S550e
  • Toto Washlet S350e
  • Toto Washlet S300e
  • Toto Washlet C200

Common Causes

  • Drying fan motor failed (bearing wear)
  • Fan blade jammed by lint or hair
  • Motor connector loose at the controller
  • Heater element for the air dryer failed
  • Controller driver for the dryer damaged

How to Fix It

  1. Power-cycle the Washlet.

Unplug from the GFCI outlet for 60 seconds.
    Plug back in.
    Test the dryer function.
If E2 cleared, you may have had a transient.
If E2 returns, the dryer is genuinely failed.

  2. Use the wash function alone.

If only the dryer is failed, you can still use the wash.
Use a towel afterward instead of relying on the warm-air dryer.
Many users find the dryer slow anyway and don't miss it — towels are faster.

  3. Don't try to access the dryer.

The dryer motor is inside the Washlet seat assembly.
Accessing it requires opening the seat housing — risk of damaging seals and electronics.
    This is service-tech work.

  4. Schedule Toto authorized service.

Contact Toto support for repair scheduling.
Most Toto-authorized plumbers can service the Washlet on-site.
Cost: 100-250 USD for motor replacement plus labor.
Free under Toto's standard warranty (typically 1 year).

  5. Consider whether to repair.

If the dryer was your favorite feature, repair makes sense.
If you rarely use it, you can skip the repair and just use the wash function.
The Washlet otherwise works fine without the dryer.
Save the repair money for now and address other issues if they arise.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will my Washlet ever fail completely?

Eventually all electronics fail.
Most Toto Washlets last 8-10 years before significant issues.
If yours is past 10 years and showing multiple errors (E1 plus E2 etc.), replacement of the whole unit is often more economical than fixing each fault.
Newer Washlets have better features and warranties.

Can lint cause E2?

Possibly — fan blades can collect lint over years.
Most users don't see lint in a bidet (vs. a clothes dryer where lint is constant).
If you suspect lint and the dryer is making unusual noises, that's a sign of buildup.
Service tech can clean it during the repair visit.
