E3
Toto Bidet
Severity: ModerateWhat Does This Error Mean?
E3 means the cleansing wand can't move to the position the controller commands — either it's physically stuck, the position sensor failed, or the wand motor is jammed.
Most often it's debris caught around the wand or mineral buildup.
Power off, manually inspect the wand area for visible obstructions.
If clear, schedule service — wand mechanism repair is internal.
Affected Models
- Toto Washlet S550e
- Toto Washlet S350e
- Toto Washlet S300e
- Toto Washlet C200
Common Causes
- Debris (toilet paper, hair) wrapped around the wand
- Mineral buildup binding the wand mechanism
- Wand position sensor failed
- Wand motor jammed
- Controller wand driver damaged
How to Fix It
-
Power off the Washlet.
Unplug the unit from the GFCI outlet.
Wait 30 seconds.
This stops any further wand position attempts that could damage the motor. -
Inspect the wand area visually.
Lift the seat to expose the wand outlet.
Look at the wand opening — should be clean and clear.
Look for visible debris — toilet paper fragments, hair, or accumulated mineral deposits.
Clear anything obvious with a cotton swab or soft cloth. -
Don't manually move the wand.
Don't try to physically push or pull the wand to a different position.
You can damage the motor or position sensor.
If it's stuck, leave it where it is and wait for service.
Don't force movement. -
Try a self-cleaning cycle.
Many Washlets have a self-cleaning function for the wand.
Press the self-clean button (usually on the side panel) after powering back on.
The wand cycles through its full motion, sometimes clearing minor obstructions.
If E3 returns, deeper service is needed. -
Schedule Toto authorized service.
If self-cleaning doesn't help, contact Toto support.
E3 typically means wand assembly service — opening the seat housing to access the wand mechanism.
Cost: 150-300 USD.
Free under warranty.
Frequently Asked Questions
Will the toilet still work?
Yes — the toilet flushes normally regardless of E3.
Only the wash function is affected.
If you absolutely need the wash, some older Washlet models have a manual wand position lever, but most modern ones rely entirely on the motor.
Check your manual.
How can I prevent wand binding?
Run the self-clean cycle every 1-2 weeks.
Don't put solid items (paper, wipes) anywhere near the wand outlet.
In hard water areas, descale every 6 months with a Toto-approved descaler.
These habits prevent most E3 events.
