E7

Toto Bidet

Severity: Minor

What Does This Error Mean?

E7 indicates the heated seat element has failed — usually after years of use the heating wire or sensor degrades.
The wash and dry functions still work; only the seat heater is affected.
This is a minor code — the Washlet is still useful, just without warm seat.
Repair: 150-300 USD service-tech work.
Many users skip this repair and use the Washlet without seat heating.

Affected Models

  • Toto Washlet S550e
  • Toto Washlet S350e
  • Toto Washlet S300e

Common Causes

  • Heated seat element burned out (after 5+ years)
  • Seat temperature sensor failed
  • Wiring damaged inside the seat
  • Controller seat heater driver damaged
  • Recent moisture or leak affected the heater

How to Fix It

  1. Power-cycle the Washlet.

Unplug from the GFCI for 60 seconds.
    Plug back in.
Test the heated seat — set it to a higher temperature and wait 10 minutes for it to warm.
If it doesn't warm up, the heater is genuinely failed.
If it warms but E7 keeps showing, the sensor has failed (heater works, sensor doesn't).

  2. Disable seat heating in settings.

If the heated seat is failed, disable it in the Washlet settings.
This may clear the E7 alert (depending on model).
The Washlet still does wash and dry without heated seat.
Useful as a workaround if you don't want to repair right away.

  3. Use without heated seat.

Many people prefer unheated seats anyway, especially in warm climates.
If you don't miss the warm seat, you can skip the repair entirely.
The Washlet is still functional for wash and dry.
Save the repair money for now.

  4. Schedule service if you want the feature back.

If you regularly use the heated seat (especially in cold bathrooms), schedule Toto-authorized service.
Cost: 150-300 USD for heater element replacement plus labor.
Service tech opens the seat housing, replaces the heating element, reseals.
Free under warranty (typically 1 year).

  5. Consider replacement if Washlet is old.

If the Washlet is over 8 years old and showing multiple errors (E7 plus E1/E2/etc.), replacement of the whole unit makes more sense than repair.
Cost of replacement: 600-1500 USD depending on model.
Repair of multiple codes can quickly approach replacement cost.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is E7 dangerous?

No — E7 is the seat heater not working.
It's an inconvenience, not a safety issue.
The Washlet's safety protections handle other temperature-related issues (E4 for water).
Use without heated seat is safe.

Why does the seat heater fail?

The heater is a thin wire embedded in the seat material.
Years of weight cycling, moisture, and heat slowly degrade the wire.
Eventually it breaks open or shorts.
Most heaters last 5-8 years for typical use.
