Remote Not Controlling

How to Fix It

1. Replace remote batteries.

   Most TOTO Washlet remotes use 2x AA or AAA.
   Open the back battery compartment.
   Replace with fresh alkaline batteries (don't mix old + new).
   Most remote issues clear with fresh batteries — try this before assuming pairing.

2. Wipe the IR sensor.

   On the side of the seat, look for a small black plastic window — that's the IR receiver.
   Wipe with a damp cloth.
   Toilet paper, dust, and water spots block the IR signal.
   Don't use abrasives — the sensor lens scratches easily.

3. Aim correctly.

   Point the remote at the side of the seat with the IR window.
   Stay within 3-6 feet for reliable signal.
   Behind toilet, blocked by walls = no signal.
   Some remotes need direct line of sight.

4. Re-pair the remote.

   Find the small reset button on the seat (location varies — check manual, often under the seat or behind a small access panel).
   Press for 3-5 seconds.
   Press a button on the remote — should respond.
   This re-establishes pairing after a lost connection.

5. Test core functions in order.

   Try Wash, then Wand Position, then Stop.
   If only some buttons work, partial pairing.
   Re-pair fully.
   If no buttons work after fresh batteries and re-pair, remote hardware failure.

6. Replace remote if needed.

   TOTO replacement remotes are 50-150 USD depending on model.
   Available from TOTO authorized dealers.
   Match part number on the back of your remote.
