MEMORY ERROR

Casio Casio Calculator

Severity: Minor

What Does This Error Mean?

Casio MEMORY ERROR means there is no more space in the calculator's user memory to store a new value, program, or result. Delete unused programs, statistical data, or stored variables to free up memory. On the fx-CG50 and ClassPad series, you can view memory usage in the memory manager.

Affected Models

  • Casio fx-CG50
  • Casio fx-9860GII
  • Casio fx-9750GIII
  • Casio ClassPad 400
  • Casio fx-5800P

Common Causes

  • User memory full — too many programs or equations stored
  • Statistical data (Freq-Data) taking up available space
  • Matrix or list variables with large dimensions consuming memory
  • Picture data or dynamic graph captures filling memory
  • eActivity files stored on fx-CG50 filling flash storage

How to Fix It

  1. Check available memory.

On fx-CG50: press MENU → Memory (the memory app) to see how much space is used and available, broken down by data type. On fx-9860GII: press MENU → 9 (Memory) → Main Memory. This shows each category and its size.

  2. Delete unused programs.

On fx-CG50: MENU → Program → select program → F1 (Delete) → confirm. On fx-9860GII: MENU → Program → F6 (Tools) → F3 (Delete All) or select individual programs. Deleting large programs frees the most memory quickly.

  3. Clear statistical data.

Press MENU → Statistics → select a list → move cursor to the column header → F3 (Edit) → F4 (Del-A) to delete all values. Alternatively, clear all statistical data in the Memory Manager by selecting 'STAT' and pressing Delete.

  4. Delete stored matrices and lists.

On fx-CG50 or fx-9860GII: go to the Memory Manager and look at the Matrix and List categories. Select and delete any matrices or lists that are no longer needed.

  5. Reset all memory as a last resort.

Press SHIFT → 9 (RESET) → 3: Initialize All or 1: Setup Data for a partial reset. Initialize All clears all user data and restores factory settings. This is irreversible — export or note any important data first.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Casio MEMORY ERROR clear itself?

No. MEMORY ERROR means storage is genuinely full and will not resolve until data is deleted. The calculator cannot automatically overwrite old data — you must manually delete what is no longer needed.

Can I back up Casio calculator data to a computer?

Yes, using the Casio FA-124 software (for older models) or Casio FX Program Link (for fx-CG50). Connect via USB, then use the software to copy programs and data to your computer as a backup before resetting.
