No Route Found
Garmin Chartplotter
Severity: MinorWhat Does This Error Mean?
Garmin Auto Guidance fails when no path can connect start to destination within configured limits.
Common causes: depth too restrictive (boat draft set deeper than route), waypoint outside chart coverage, hazards between points, or chart data missing in the area.
Reduce minimum depth setting, check that both points are in chart coverage, and try a manual route as fallback.
Affected Models
- Garmin GPSMAP 7610
- Garmin GPSMAP 8410
- Garmin echoMAP 73cv
- Garmin GPSMAP 1042xsv
Common Causes
- Depth setting too restrictive (boat draft set too deep)
- Destination outside loaded chart coverage area
- Waypoint placed on land or in marina
- Chart data missing or out of date for that region
- BlueChart Mobile / ActiveCaptain data not loaded
- Auto Guidance feature requires premium chart subscription
How to Fix It
-
Check minimum depth setting.
Garmin Auto Guidance respects your minimum depth — if you set 10 ft and the only path goes through 8 ft water, it can't route.
Settings → Navigation → Auto Guidance → Minimum Depth → reduce.
For most recreational boats, 6 ft minimum is reasonable; sailboats may need 4 ft. -
Verify chart coverage.
Both start and destination must be in your loaded chart card's coverage.
Pan to the destination on the chart — if it shows blank or generic land, no detailed chart there.
Buy/download the chart for that region. -
Check waypoint placement.
Auto Guidance can't route to a waypoint on land or inside a marina building.
Move the waypoint to open water near the actual destination (e.g., 100 yards offshore from the marina entrance). -
Update charts.
Outdated charts miss recent dredging, new channels, or removed obstructions.
Garmin BlueChart updates available via OneChart or chartcards.
Check expiration date on your chart card. -
Use manual route as fallback.
If Auto Guidance can't find a path, build the route manually: tap to add waypoints, connecting them through known-safe water.
Manual routes always work as long as the chart has the area.
Time-consuming but reliable. -
Try Trip Planner.
Garmin Trip Planner may find routes that Auto Guidance misses (different algorithm).
Settings → Trip Planner → enter start and destination.
Worth trying as second opinion.
