Descaling Alert
Jura Coffee Machine
Severity:What Does This Error Mean?
The descaling alert means scale buildup inside the machine has reached a threshold where descaling is required. Use Jura descaling tablets (not liquid descaler) and follow the built-in descale programme. This takes around 30 minutes.
Affected Models
- Jura E Series
- Jura S Series
- Jura Z Series
- Jura F Series
- Jura Impressa Series
- Jura ENA Series
Common Causes
- Scale buildup from hard water in the boiler and water circuit
- Mineral deposits reducing heating efficiency and water flow
- Normal use over time — Jura triggers the alert based on a programmed cup counter or CLARIS filter status
How to Fix It
-
Purchase Jura descaling tablets.
Use only Jura-brand descaling tablets — not liquid descaler. Jura machines are calibrated for tablet descaling and the programme dispenses water in phases timed for tablet dissolution.
-
Prepare the machine.
Empty the drip tray and water tank. Place a large container (at least 1.5 litres) under the coffee and steam outlets. Fill the water tank with fresh water to the descaling fill line.
-
Start the descale programme.
Navigate to the Maintenance or Settings menu and select the Descale option. Drop the Jura descaling tablet into the water tank when prompted. The programme runs automatically in several phases — do not interrupt it.
-
Rinse and finish.
The programme will prompt you to refill the water tank with fresh water for the final rinse phase. When complete, the descaling indicator will reset. Empty and rinse the drip tray and water tank.
When to Call a Professional
Descaling is a routine user maintenance task. If the descaling alert returns very quickly after completing a full descale cycle, have a Jura technician inspect the internal circuit for heavy scale deposits.
