Competitive Suspended

Blizzard Overwatch 2

Severity: Moderate

What Does This Error Mean?

A competitive suspension in Overwatch 2 means you left, disconnected from, or went AFK in too many competitive matches. The suspension is automatic and cannot be removed early by support. The penalty time increases with each offence — from a few minutes for a first offence up to a full season ban for repeated ones.

Affected Models

  • Overwatch 2 (PC, PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch)

Common Causes

  • Leaving a competitive match before it ends
  • Being disconnected due to internet issues and not reconnecting in time
  • Going AFK (away from keyboard) during a competitive match
  • Game crash during competitive — treated the same as leaving

How to Fix It

  1. Wait for the suspension period to expire. The timer is shown in the Competitive menu and counts down in real time.

First offence: a few minutes. Second offence: 30 minutes. Third and beyond: several hours, then season-long bans for persistent offenders. You can still play Quick Play and Arcade during a competitive suspension.

  2. If the suspension was caused by a disconnection, improve your internet connection before returning to competitive play.

Use a wired ethernet connection instead of WiFi for competitive modes. A single disconnect counts the same as intentionally leaving — so connection stability matters.

  3. Check your router and ISP connection for instability. Frequent packet loss can cause mid-game disconnections that trigger suspensions.

Run a ping test to a reliable server while playing — if you see spikes above 200ms or packet loss, your connection is the problem. Contact your ISP if this is a recurring issue.

When to Call a Professional

Blizzard support cannot remove competitive suspensions — they are automated. If your connection drops frequently causing accidental disconnections, fixing your internet stability is the only prevention.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Blizzard support remove competitive suspensions?

No — competitive suspensions are fully automated and Blizzard support will not remove them, even if the disconnection was due to a server issue on Blizzard's side. The penalty must expire on its own.

Will a competitive suspension affect my rank?

The suspension itself does not change your competitive rank. However, any losses from matches you left or disconnected from will still count against your rank rating.
