LC-208
Blizzard Overwatch 2
Severity: MinorWhat Does This Error Mean?
LC-208 in Overwatch 2 means your Battle.net account does not have a verified phone number attached. Blizzard requires SMS verification to reduce smurfing and cheating. Adding a valid mobile number to your Battle.net account clears this error immediately.
Affected Models
- Overwatch 2 (PC via Battle.net)
- Overwatch 2 (PlayStation 4 and 5)
- Overwatch 2 (Xbox One, Series X/S)
- Overwatch 2 (Nintendo Switch)
Common Causes
- Battle.net account does not have a phone number added
- The phone number is a VoIP number — Blizzard only accepts real mobile numbers
- The phone number is already associated with a different Battle.net account
- Account was created before the phone requirement and has not been updated
How to Fix It
-
Log in to your Battle.net account at battle.net/account and go to Account Settings > Phone Number.
Add a valid mobile number and verify it with the SMS code that is sent. Prepaid and postpaid mobile numbers both work — the number just cannot be a VoIP service like Google Voice.
-
If you receive an error saying the number is already in use, log in to the other Battle.net account that has that number and remove it first.
Each phone number can only be linked to one Battle.net account at a time. If you no longer have access to the other account, contact Blizzard support to have it removed.
-
If your number is being rejected even though it is a valid mobile, try a different mobile number — a family member's number works as a one-time verification.
Some mobile numbers are flagged in Blizzard's system for unrelated reasons. Blizzard support can also manually verify accounts if you cannot use any mobile number.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I play Overwatch 2 without a phone number?
No — a verified mobile phone number is required for all new accounts. Console accounts linked through PlayStation Network, Xbox Live, or Nintendo Switch already meet the requirement and do not need an additional phone number.
Does the phone number requirement apply to existing Overwatch 1 accounts?
Players who had Overwatch 1 before the launch of Overwatch 2 are generally exempt from the phone requirement. Only new accounts created after the free-to-play launch require phone verification.
