Error Code 29

Riot Games Valorant

Severity:

What Does This Error Mean?

Error Code 29 in Valorant means the game client could not connect to Riot's servers. This is usually caused by a Riot server outage, a VPN interfering with the connection, or a DNS issue on your network. Checking the Riot server status and restarting your router fixes most cases.

Affected Models

  • Valorant (PC only — Windows)

Common Causes

  • Riot server outage or maintenance
  • VPN routing traffic away from Riot's servers
  • DNS cache on your PC or router is pointing to a stale or blocked address
  • Windows Firewall or antivirus blocking Valorant's connection
  • ISP routing issue affecting Riot's network

How to Fix It

  1. Check the Riot Games server status at status.riotgames.com. If Valorant servers in your region are listed as offline or degraded, wait for Riot to restore them.

Server outages are the most common cause of Error 29. Riot also posts real-time updates at @RiotSupport on Twitter/X.

  2. Disable any VPN before launching Valorant. VPNs can route your connection through a server that Riot's systems block or cannot reach.

Even VPNs not related to gaming can interfere with Valorant's connection. Turn the VPN off completely before launching Riot Client.

  3. Flush your DNS cache. Open Command Prompt as administrator and type: ipconfig /flushdns and press Enter. Then restart Valorant.

A stale DNS entry can send connection attempts to the wrong address. Flushing DNS forces your PC to look up Riot's server addresses fresh.

  4. Restart your router and check that your Windows Firewall has not blocked the Riot Client or Valorant executable.

Go to Windows Defender Firewall > Allow an app through firewall and make sure both Riot Client and Valorant are allowed on Private and Public networks.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Error Code 29 my fault or Riot's fault?

Usually it is neither — it is a connection issue between your network and Riot's servers. If the Riot status page shows no issues and restarting your router does not help, it may be an ISP routing problem that resolves on its own within a few hours.

Does Error 29 affect my competitive rank or cause a suspension?

If Error 29 disconnects you from a competitive match, it is treated the same as leaving the match. This can trigger a competitive suspension. If the disconnection was caused by a confirmed Riot server outage, Riot may reverse the suspension — check their support page.
