No SD Card
BlackVue Dash Cam
Severity:What Does This Error Mean?
BlackVue No SD Card means the camera cannot detect a microSD card in its slot — either no card is installed, the card is not fully inserted, or the card slot has a fault. Without an SD card, the BlackVue records nothing. Check that a compatible card is firmly seated in the slot on the back of the camera body.
Affected Models
- BlackVue DR900X-2CH
- BlackVue DR750X-2CH
- BlackVue DR970X-2CH
- BlackVue DR590X-2CH
- BlackVue DR770X-2CH
Common Causes
- No microSD card has been installed in the camera
- The SD card has not been pushed in far enough to make contact with the slot pins
- The card was ejected by vibration after the push-to-release latch loosened over time
- The card slot contacts inside the camera are bent or dirty
- The SD card itself is damaged or has a broken contact pad
How to Fix It
-
Check whether a card is installed and is the right size
Remove the BlackVue from its windshield mount and inspect the SD card slot (typically at the rear of the camera body, sometimes behind a small cover). BlackVue cameras use microSD cards — ensure you have the correct format. A standard SD card or no card inserted will cause this message.
-
Remove and firmly reinsert the microSD card
Push the card gently into the slot until you feel a click. BlackVue slots use a push-in push-out mechanism. If the card was only partially inserted, a firm push will seat it. After reinsertion, power the camera on and check whether No SD Card is still displayed.
-
Clean the card's gold contacts with a dry cloth or eraser
Remove the card and gently rub its gold contact strip with a dry lint-free cloth or the side of a pencil eraser. Oxidised contacts can prevent detection. Blow any dust from the card slot before reinserting the cleaned card.
-
Test with a different known-working microSD card
Insert a different microSD card (even a spare from a phone) to determine whether the problem is the card or the camera's slot. If a different card is detected and the error clears, your original card is damaged or incompatible. Replace it with a high-endurance card.
-
Contact BlackVue support if the slot itself is damaged
If no card is detected regardless of which card is inserted, the card slot contacts inside the camera may be bent or the slot reader has failed. This requires service. Contact BlackVue support (or your point of purchase) for warranty repair or replacement, as the camera cannot function without a working SD slot.
Frequently Asked Questions
What size microSD card does a BlackVue dash cam use?
BlackVue cameras support microSD cards from 32GB to 256GB (or 512GB on some newer models like the DR970X). BlackVue recommends at least 64GB for sufficient loop recording coverage. The card must be Class 10 / UHS-I rated and a high-endurance type — standard camera SD cards are not suitable for continuous recording.
Why did my BlackVue suddenly stop detecting its SD card after working fine?
The most common causes of sudden non-detection are: the push-release latch loosened from vibration and partially ejected the card, the card has reached end of life and its contacts are worn, or a hard bump caused the card to shift in the slot. Check seating first — it resolves the majority of sudden No SD Card issues.
