EH
GE Dehumidifier
Severity: ModerateWhat Does This Error Mean?
EH on a GE dehumidifier means the humidity sensor has detected a fault. The unit cannot maintain humidity setpoint accurately. Operation may continue in continuous mode but auto-humidity does not work. Sensor replacement is the typical fix.
Affected Models
- GE ADEL30LR
- GE ADEL50LR
- GE ADEL70LR
- GE Profile Dehumidifier
- GE Smart Dehumidifier 50-Pint
Common Causes
- Failed humidity sensor element
- Sensor wiring loose at the control board
- Dust accumulation on the sensor reducing accuracy
- Moisture saturation from running in extreme conditions
- Control board input fault (rare)
How to Fix It
-
Power off and unplug for 1 hour.
A long power-off allows full discharge of the control board and dry-out of any moisture saturating the sensor. Try restarting after the rest period.
-
Vacuum the air intake.
Dust on the intake reduces airflow over the sensor and causes inaccurate readings. A vacuum cleaner attachment with brush works well for cleaning the intake grille.
-
Confirm room temperature is in range.
GE dehumidifiers typically operate from 41°F to 89°F (5–32°C). Outside range, the sensor cannot read accurately. Move to a suitable space if needed.
-
Try continuous mode.
If your model has continuous mode, switch to it. Continuous mode bypasses the humidity sensor — the unit runs whenever the bucket is not full. Useful as a workaround while waiting for repair.
-
Book service or check warranty.
GE dehumidifiers come with 1 year standard warranty (longer in some markets). Sensor replacement under warranty is free; out of warranty cost USD 120–200 fitted. For older units, replacement may be more economical.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between GE EC and EH?
EC is the coil temperature sensor fault. EH is the humidity sensor fault. Both prevent normal operation but for different reasons. EC affects defrost cycle protection; EH affects humidity setpoint control.
Can I keep using my GE dehumidifier with EH?
Yes in continuous mode (no humidity setpoint). The unit removes water continuously without trying to read humidity. Use this short-term until the sensor is replaced. Avoid letting the bucket overfill.
