E01

Bosch Dishwasher

Severity:

What Does This Error Mean?

Error E01 means the heating element or the NTC temperature sensor has failed. The dishwasher cannot heat water or dry dishes properly. A reset can clear a one-off glitch; if it persists, a replacement part is needed.

How to Fix It

  1. Reset the dishwasher: hold the start button for 3 seconds to cancel the programme, then switch off at the mains for 10 minutes and restart.

  2. Run a full hot programme (e.g. 65 degrees Intensive). If E01 appears again, the fault is confirmed — not a one-off glitch.

  3. Check the water inlet: if cold water is not entering the machine properly, the heater may never reach temperature. Confirm the supply valve is fully open and the inlet filter is clean.

  4. If E01 persists, the heating element or NTC temperature sensor needs testing with a multimeter. Replace whichever component fails the resistance test.

  5. If you are not comfortable testing electrical components, book a Bosch-approved service engineer. The heating element is a common DIY repair but requires draining and partially disassembling the machine.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I still wash dishes with an E01 error?

The machine will run without heating, so dishes will be cleaned with cold or lukewarm water but will not dry properly. Hygiene may also be affected at lower temperatures.

What does the NTC sensor do?

The NTC (Negative Temperature Coefficient) sensor monitors water temperature. If it reads incorrectly, the dishwasher reports E01 even if the heating element itself is fine.

How much does a Bosch dishwasher heating element cost?

Typically £20-£60 for the part. Fitting it yourself takes 1-2 hours. A repair call-out adds £60-£120 for labour on top of the part cost.
