F6E4
KitchenAid Dishwasher
Severity: CriticalWhat Does This Error Mean?
KitchenAid dishwasher F6E4 error means the machine could not fill with water within the allowed time. Check that the water tap under the sink is fully open and that the inlet hose has no kinks.
Affected Models
- KitchenAid Built-In Dishwasher
- KitchenAid Top Control Dishwasher
- KitchenAid Front Control Dishwasher
- KitchenAid KDTM Series Dishwasher
Common Causes
- Water supply tap under the sink is closed or partially open
- Kinked or crimped inlet hose
- Blocked mesh filter on the inlet valve
- Low household water pressure
- Faulty water inlet valve solenoid
How to Fix It
-
Check the water supply tap.
Open the cabinet under the sink and locate the supply tap on the hot or cold water pipe connected to the dishwasher inlet hose. Turn it fully counter-clockwise to open. A partially open tap is a common cause of F6E4.
-
Check the inlet hose for kinks.
Pull the dishwasher slightly forward and inspect the braided or rubber inlet hose. Straighten any bends or kinks. Also check the hose has not been pinched by the machine being pushed back against the cabinet.
-
Clean the inlet valve mesh filter.
Turn off the water supply tap. Unscrew the inlet hose from the back of the dishwasher. Inside the inlet port there is a small mesh filter. Remove it carefully, rinse it under running water, and refit.
-
Reset the dishwasher.
After checking the water supply, hold the cancel or reset button for 3 seconds to clear the F6E4 code. Restart a normal cycle and check that the machine fills.
When to Call a Professional
If the tap is open, the hose is straight, and the inlet filter is clean but F6E4 persists, the water inlet valve solenoid has failed and needs replacement.
