IE
LG Dishwasher
Severity: ModerateWhat Does This Error Mean?
Error IE means the dishwasher has not received enough water within the expected fill time. Check the water supply valve is open, the inlet hose is not kinked, and the mesh filter at the hose connection is clear.
How to Fix It
-
Confirm the water supply valve under the sink is fully open (turned completely anti-clockwise).
-
Check the water pressure at your home — run a nearby tap. If the flow is very weak, a mains pressure issue may be causing IE.
-
Turn off the water supply. Disconnect the inlet hose from the back of the dishwasher and locate the small mesh filter screen inside the coupling. Remove it with tweezers and rinse it clean.
-
Check the inlet hose for kinks or bends that restrict flow. Straighten or replace the hose if needed.
-
Reconnect the hose, turn on the water supply, and restart the dishwasher. If IE persists, the water inlet valve (solenoid) inside the machine may need replacement.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can cold weather cause IE?
Yes. If the water supply pipes are partially frozen in winter, water pressure can drop enough to trigger IE. Thaw the pipe and insulate it to prevent recurrence.
IE appeared only once and has not returned — should I worry?
A single occurrence can be a temporary pressure drop or supply interruption. Monitor for recurrence. If it happens regularly, clean the inlet filter and check the solenoid valve.
What is the inlet solenoid valve?
It is an electrically controlled valve that opens to let water in when the machine starts. It sits inside the machine where the inlet hose connects. A failed solenoid stays closed and causes IE.
