7E

Samsung Dishwasher

Severity: Minor

What Does This Error Mean?

7E specifically affects Samsung Waterwall models — the moving reflector that creates the wall of water has stopped.
Either food debris is jamming the carriage, the rail is blocked, or the drive motor has failed.
Pull out the bottom rack and inspect the reflector at the back.
Push it gently along the rail to feel for binding.
Cleaning the rail clears most 7E events.

Affected Models

  • Samsung DW80 Waterwall
  • Samsung StormWash
  • Samsung Linear Wash
  • Samsung Chef Collection dishwashers

Common Causes

  • Food debris caught in the reflector carriage
  • Rail dirty with mineral or food deposits
  • Reflector physically out of its track
  • Drive belt or gear damaged
  • Reflector motor failed

How to Fix It

  1. Pull out the bottom rack.

Take out the bottom rack completely.
Set it aside on a towel.
Look at the back wall of the dishwasher tub — you'll see a horizontal bar (the Waterwall reflector) that runs along a rail.

  2. Inspect the reflector and rail.

The reflector is a long plastic bar that should slide smoothly along the rail.
Push it left and right by hand.
    Should glide easily.
If it binds, sticks, or doesn't move, food or mineral buildup is the cause.

  3. Clean the rail thoroughly.

Use a damp cloth to wipe the rail.
Pay attention to the corners where the rail joins.
Mineral deposits can build up here, especially in hard water.
For stubborn deposits, use a 50/50 mix of vinegar and water.

  4. Run a hot rinse with vinegar.

Replace the bottom rack and put a cup of plain white vinegar on the top rack (in a measuring cup).
    Run a hot Rinse cycle.
The vinegar dissolves mineral deposits along the rail and the reflector itself.
This is good monthly maintenance for hard water areas.

  5. Schedule service if reflector won't move.

If the reflector is mechanically jammed despite cleaning, the drive motor or gear has failed.
That's a service-tech repair — accessing the Waterwall mechanism requires partially dismantling the dishwasher.
Most repairs run 200–350 USD for parts and labor.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will the dishwasher clean without the Waterwall working?

Most Samsung Waterwall models have backup spray arms that work even with the Waterwall failed.
You'll get cleaning, but not the optimized water coverage Waterwall provides.
Dishes may need slight pre-rinsing or extra cycle time until repaired.

Why does 7E happen after a big meal?

Larger meals mean more food debris going into the dishwasher.
If pre-rinsing is light, that debris ends up in the wash, and pieces large enough to jam the Waterwall reflector get past the filter.
Better pre-rinsing or cleaning out the filter regularly prevents recurrence.
