F2E2

Whirlpool Dishwasher

Severity: Moderate

What Does This Error Mean?

F2E2 on a Whirlpool dishwasher means the control panel has detected a stuck button. Press each button firmly to identify the stuck one. Wipe the panel clean. Persistent F2E2 means the touchpad needs replacement.

Affected Models

  • Whirlpool WDT730PAHZ
  • Whirlpool WDF520PADM
  • Whirlpool WDTA50SAHZ
  • Whirlpool WDT750SAKZ
  • Whirlpool WDF330PAHB

Common Causes

  • A button is physically stuck due to debris or moisture
  • Sticky residue (dishwasher detergent, food splash) holding a button down
  • Moisture inside the touchpad ribbon connector
  • Worn touchpad membrane (typical in dishwashers over 6 years old)

How to Fix It

  1. Press each button on the control panel.

Press every button in turn — Start, Cancel, Power, each cycle button, each option button. Listen for the beep and watch the display. A button that does not beep, or beeps continuously, is the stuck one.

  2. Clean the panel surface.

Wipe the entire control panel with a barely damp cloth. Pay extra attention around the stuck button — sticky detergent or food residue often holds buttons down. Do not spray cleaner directly on the panel.

  3. Power cycle the dishwasher.

Turn off at the wall socket or breaker for 5 minutes, then restore power. Press Start with the door open — F2E2 should clear after the panel reads no buttons depressed.

  4. Allow to dry for 24 hours if needed.

If F2E2 follows steam from a recent wash escaping the door, leave the door open and the power off for 24 hours. Trapped moisture in the touchpad evaporates and may resolve F2E2.

  5. Book service for touchpad replacement.

If F2E2 persists after cleaning and a 24-hour dry-out, the touchpad assembly needs replacement. Whirlpool touchpads cost USD 70–150 plus labour. Total typical cost USD 200–300 fitted.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will my Whirlpool dishwasher run with F2E2?

No — F2E2 typically locks out cycle start. The dishwasher cannot determine which button you are pressing because one is permanently active. Clear F2E2 before starting a wash.

Why did F2E2 appear right after a wash?

Steam from a wash cycle can creep through small gaps and reach the touchpad ribbon. This is a common cause of post-wash F2E2. Drying with the door open for several hours often clears it.
