Connection Lost

Holy Stone Drone

Severity:

What Does This Error Mean?

Holy Stone drone connection lost means the controller or app has lost its radio link to the drone. The drone will activate Return to Home automatically after a few seconds without a signal. Do not panic — stay where you are and the drone will fly back.

Affected Models

  • Holy Stone HS720E
  • Holy Stone HS360E
  • Holy Stone F11S
  • Holy Stone HS175D
  • Holy Stone HS710E

Common Causes

  • Drone flown beyond the controller's range (~500 m typical)
  • Radio interference from other 2.4 GHz devices
  • Controller or app battery low
  • Phone Wi-Fi switching away from the drone's hotspot
  • Tall buildings or trees blocking the radio signal path

How to Fix It

  1. Stay calm — the drone triggers automatic Return to Home.

Holy Stone GPS drones activate RTH when the signal is lost for more than 3-5 seconds. Stay at the takeoff point. The drone will fly home and land automatically.

  2. Point the controller antenna toward the drone.

The flat face of the controller antenna should face the drone. The edge of the antenna radiates the weakest signal — rotate the antenna for best range.

  3. Fly back within range immediately if signal is intermittent.

If connection is cutting in and out, you are near the range limit. Fly the drone toward you — do not push further away.

  4. Reduce Wi-Fi interference by flying away from router-heavy areas.

The 2.4 GHz radio used by Holy Stone drones shares the band with Wi-Fi. Flying above rooftop level in an open area avoids most interference.

  5. Re-bind the controller to the drone if they will not reconnect.

Power on the drone, then power on the controller. If no auto-link: put the controller in bind mode (usually: power on with throttle held up), then cycle the drone power. Consult your model's manual for the exact bind procedure.

Frequently Asked Questions

What happens if Holy Stone drone loses connection and GPS also fails?

Without GPS, the drone cannot navigate home automatically. It will hover in place using its barometer, then descend slowly and land wherever it is. Always ensure GPS is locked before flying beyond visual range.

What is the actual control range of the Holy Stone HS720E?

The HS720E is rated to 1000 metres in ideal conditions. In practice with buildings and interference, 300-500 metres is more typical. Always keep the drone within visual line of sight.
