E62

Electrolux Dryer

Severity: Moderate

What Does This Error Mean?

E62 means the safety thermostat has failed or tripped due to overheating. It cuts power to the heater to prevent a fire. Clean the exhaust vent first, then test the thermostat.

Affected Models

  • Electrolux Electric Dryer
  • Electrolux EDC Series
  • Electrolux EW Series

Common Causes

  • Faulty safety thermostat that has failed open
  • Safety thermostat tripped due to blocked exhaust vent
  • Overloaded drum restricting internal airflow
  • Restricted exhaust duct causing drum temperature to spike

How to Fix It

  1. Clean the exhaust vent and lint filter.

Clear all lint from the filter and the full duct run. A clogged vent causes drum temperatures to rise above safe limits, tripping the safety thermostat.

  2. Allow the dryer to cool down completely.

Unplug for 30 minutes before testing. If the thermostat tripped due to a one-time blockage, it may reset after cooling.

  3. Test and replace the safety thermostat.

Locate the safety thermostat on the heating element housing or duct (it looks similar to the cycling thermostat but is usually rated at a higher temperature). Test with a multimeter at room temperature — it should have continuity. Replace if open.

When to Call a Professional

If cleaning the vent clears E62 but it returns within a few loads, the thermostat has been weakened by repeated overheating and should be replaced.
