D90
LG Dryer
Severity:What Does This Error Mean?
LG dryer D90 means the exhaust vent is approximately 90% blocked — airflow is critically restricted. Stop using the dryer and clean the full exhaust duct immediately before continuing.
Affected Models
- LG Electric Dryer
- LG Gas Dryer
- LG DLGX Series
- LG DLEX Series
- LG ThinQ Dryer
Common Causes
- Severe lint buildup throughout the exhaust duct
- Collapsed or crushed vent hose behind the dryer
- Bird nest or large debris at the exterior vent cap
- Vent duct that exceeds maximum recommended length
- Vent hose kinked tightly reducing airflow to near zero
How to Fix It
-
Stop using the dryer immediately.
At 90% blockage, the dryer is retaining dangerous levels of heat. Continuing to run it at this stage significantly increases the risk of overheating and fire.
-
Clean the lint trap and housing.
Remove and clean the lint screen. Vacuum out the lint trap slot with a narrow attachment — even a small amount of lint here adds to the overall restriction.
-
Inspect and replace the vent hose.
Pull the dryer forward and check the hose for kinks, crushes, or damage. If using a plastic accordion-style hose, replace it with semi-rigid or rigid metal duct — these accumulate far less lint.
-
Use a vent cleaning brush kit to clear the full duct.
Push flexible rod brushes through the entire duct run from the dryer connection to the exterior cap. For long runs through walls and ceilings, a power drill attachment makes this much faster and more effective.
-
Clear the exterior vent cap and run a test cycle.
Check and clean the exterior flap vent cover. After cleaning, run a timed dry cycle and confirm D90 does not return.
When to Call a Professional
If D90 returns after a thorough duct cleaning, have a professional inspect the duct installation. The run may be too long, have too many bends, or have a hidden collapse inside a wall.
