D95

LG Dryer

Severity: Critical

What Does This Error Mean?

LG dryer D95 means the exhaust vent is 95% blocked. The dryer has automatically shut down to prevent overheating and fire. Clean the full exhaust duct before attempting to restart.

Affected Models

  • LG Electric Dryer
  • LG Gas Dryer
  • LG DLGX Series
  • LG DLEX Series
  • LG ThinQ Dryer

Common Causes

  • Complete lint blockage throughout the exhaust duct
  • Bird nest or debris fully blocking the exterior vent cap
  • Collapsed duct inside a wall or ceiling
  • Extremely kinked or crushed vent hose behind the dryer
  • Duct run far exceeding recommended maximum length

How to Fix It

  1. Do not attempt to override or restart the dryer.

At D95 the dryer has shut itself off for safety. Do not unplug and replug to force a restart — the blockage must be cleared first.

  2. Disconnect the vent hose from the back of the dryer.

Loosen the clamp or twist-off connector and remove the hose. Check immediately if the hose itself is fully blocked with compacted lint or if it has collapsed.

  3. Clean the vent hose and full duct run.

Use a dryer vent cleaning brush kit with flexible extension rods. Push the brush through the entire duct from the dryer connection to the exterior vent cap, pulling lint out as you go.

  4. Check and clear the exterior vent cap.

Inspect the outside of your home where the dryer vent exits. Remove any lint, bird nests, ice (in winter), or debris completely blocking the flap. A blocked exterior cap alone can cause D95.

  5. Reconnect and run a test cycle.

Reconnect the cleaned vent hose with the clamp secure. Run a short timed dry cycle and confirm D95 does not return. Drying time should noticeably improve.

When to Call a Professional

If D95 returns after thorough cleaning, the duct installation itself is the problem — it may be too long, have too many bends, or have a concealed collapse. Have a professional inspect or reroute the exhaust duct.
