dE
LG Dryer
Severity: MinorWhat Does This Error Mean?
dE means the door switch isn't detecting the door as fully closed.
Open the door, then close it firmly until you hear the click.
Most dE events are just push-it-harder — modern doors need firm closure to engage the latch sensor.
If dE persists, lint or residue on the latch is preventing engagement, or the latch is worn out.
Affected Models
- LG DLE series electric
- LG DLG series gas
- LG TurboSteam
- LG SignaturePRO
- LG smart dryer
Common Causes
- Door not pushed firmly enough to engage latch
- Lint or laundry residue around the latch
- Latch arm bent or misaligned
- Door switch (sensor) failed
- Wiring loose at the controller
How to Fix It
-
Open and close the door firmly.
Open the door fully.
Push it closed firmly until you hear the click.
Try 5–10 times.
The latch may just need clean activation — sometimes it works after several closures.
Listen for the click. -
Inspect the latch and catch.
Look at the latch on the door (a hook or arm) and the matching catch on the body.
Both should be clean.
Wipe with a damp cloth.
Lint or fabric softener residue can prevent proper engagement.
Don't forget the inside surfaces. -
Check door alignment.
Close the door and look at the gap with the body.
Should be even all around.
If it sags, the hinge is loose.
Tighten the hinge screws.
If the hinge itself is worn, replacement (30–60 USD parts) restores alignment. -
Test the latch by hand.
With the door open, press the latch arm with your finger as if the door were closing.
Should feel a click.
If no click happens, the switch internally is failed.
Replacement switches are 15–30 USD parts.
Service-tech work to fit safely. -
Schedule service if dE persists.
If latch and catch look fine but dE remains, the switch or wiring inside the door has failed.
Service-tech replacement.
Total repair: 100–200 USD typically.
Don't bypass — door switch is a safety feature.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why does dE happen mid-cycle?
Heavy unbalanced loads can vibrate the door enough to briefly disengage the latch.
If dE only appears with heavy loads, balance better.
If the issue is recurring on normal loads, the latch is worn — replacement prevents it from getting worse over time.
Can a child accidentally open the door?
Most LG dryer doors require a firm pull to open — they're not designed for accidental opening.
If a child has been able to open the dryer mid-cycle, the latch may be worn or out of alignment.
Test by pulling firmly with the dryer off — should resist with a definite force needed.
