LE3
LG Dryer
Severity: ModerateWhat it means
LG dryer LE3 is the air-circulation-motor fault on LG heat pump and condenser dryers.
LG's exact wording: 'problem with the motor that circulates air in the dryer.'
Unlike the drum motor (LE1), this is the separate fan motor that pushes air through the heat exchanger to extract moisture from the warm air.
The fan motor is on the control circuit, not the drum drive belt.
Affected Models
- LG DLHC series compact heat pump dryers
- LG ventless condenser dryers (DLEC series and similar)
- LG WashTower heat pump units (where applicable)
- LE3 specifically targets the separate air-circulation fan motor, which is most prominent on condenser and heat pump dryers
- Standard vented LG dryers (DLE / DLG / DLEX / DLGX) typically log other LE-family codes for motor faults
Common Causes
- Air circulation fan motor seized or failed
- Fan motor wiring connector loose or pinched
- Foreign object blocking the fan blades (lint accumulation in the fan housing)
- Fan motor capacitor failed (heat pump models)
- Control board fault not driving the fan correctly
How to Fix It
-
Power cycle for 5 minutes.
Unplug the dryer for a full 5 minutes, then plug back in and start a short Time Dry cycle.
This clears any transient fault state.
Some LE3 cases are momentary and don't recur after a reset. -
Listen for the fan during a test cycle.
Open the door briefly during the Time Dry cycle and listen.
On a normally-working LG dryer, you should hear a steady airflow whoosh from inside the cabinet (not just the drum tumbling).
If you hear only the drum motor with no airflow, the fan isn't running. -
Check the lint filter area for blockage.
Pull the lint filter and look down into its housing with a flashlight.
Heavy lint accumulation at the fan inlet can stall the fan and trigger LE3.
Vacuum out anything visible — but don't reach in past the visible area. -
Schedule LG service if LE3 persists.
If LE3 appears immediately on every test cycle after the reset, the fan motor or its drive circuit needs replacement.
This is a service call — LG schedules through lg.com/us/support.
When to Call a Professional
If a 5-minute power cycle doesn't clear LE3, the fan motor or its drive circuit needs LG service.
The fan motor is inside the cabinet and isn't owner-accessible on modern LG dryers.
Frequently Asked Questions
How is LE3 different from LE1?
LE1 is LG's code for the DRUM MOTOR — the motor that physically rotates the drum.
LE3 is the AIR CIRCULATION FAN MOTOR — a separate motor that moves air through the dryer for the drying process to work.
If LE1 appears, the drum won't turn.
If LE3 appears, the drum still turns but air isn't circulating, so clothes don't dry properly even though the dryer looks like it's running.
