PF

LG Dryer

Severity: Minor

What Does This Error Mean?

PF is the power failure indicator — the dryer detected a power interruption mid-cycle.
It's not a fault, just a notification.
Press Start to resume the cycle from where it stopped, or press Power then Start to begin a fresh cycle.
If PF appears every time you start, the breaker or outlet has an issue.

Affected Models

  • LG DLE series electric
  • LG DLG series gas
  • LG TurboSteam
  • LG SignaturePRO
  • LG smart dryer

Common Causes

  • Brief power outage during a cycle
  • Circuit breaker tripped
  • Plug worked loose from the outlet
  • Outlet failure or wiring fault
  • Power dip from heavy household load

How to Fix It

  1. Press Start to resume.

On most LG dryers, press Start once to resume the cycle from where it stopped.
The cycle continues with whatever time was remaining.
This is usually all you need to do.
If clothes were nearly dry when power dropped, they may finish very quickly.

  2. Or restart with a fresh cycle.

If you'd rather start over, press Power off, then on, then choose your cycle.
    This resets the dryer fully.
Use this approach if you don't trust the load was at the right phase when power dropped, or if clothes are unusually wet.

  3. Check the breaker.

If you don't know how long the outage was, check your home's breaker box.
If the dryer's breaker is tripped (handle in middle position), reset it.
If it trips immediately on reset with the dryer trying to run, the dryer or wiring has a real fault.

  4. Inspect the plug.

If your dryer is plug-in (not hardwired), check that the plug is fully seated in the outlet.
A loose plug can disconnect briefly during heat and vibration.
    Push it firmly in.
If the outlet feels warm or shows scorching, an electrician should inspect it.

  5. Watch for repeated PF.

If PF appears multiple times in a week without obvious power outages, you have an electrical issue.
Could be the outlet, the dedicated breaker, or wiring inside walls.
An electrician can diagnose with a logging meter to find when and why power drops.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will my clothes be okay after PF?

Yes — clothes don't suffer from a brief power outage during drying.
They'll just finish a bit later than expected.
Wet clothes left for hours after PF can develop a musty smell — restart promptly when you notice PF.
If you've been away for a long time, run a fresh cycle to refresh.

How can I tell if it was a household outage or just my dryer?

Check whether other appliances reset or showed clock-flashing patterns.
If yes, the whole house lost power — common during storms.
If only the dryer shows PF, the issue is specific to the dryer's circuit (breaker, outlet, plug).
An electrician check is worth it for repeated single-circuit PF.
