Maytag Dryer F3E1 Error — Exhaust Thermistor Fault

What Does This Error Mean?

F3E1 means the exhaust temperature sensor (thermistor) is faulty or disconnected. The dryer cannot regulate heat safely and shuts down. Test the thermistor or replace it.

How to Fix It

Clean the exhaust vent.

Disconnect the duct from the back of the dryer and clear all lint. A blocked vent causes heat buildup that degrades the thermistor over time.
Check the thermistor wire connector.

Unplug the dryer and locate the exhaust thermistor — usually clipped to the exhaust duct inside the cabinet. Firmly reseat the wire connector. A loose connection causes the same F3E1 symptom as a failed sensor.
Test the thermistor with a multimeter.

At room temperature, a working thermistor typically reads 10,000–50,000 ohms (varies by model). If it reads open or zero, the thermistor has failed — replace it with the correct part for your model.

If the vent is clear and the thermistor tests faulty, this is a straightforward DIY repair. A technician is only needed if the fault returns after replacing the thermistor.
