F18

Miele Dryer

Severity: Moderate

What Does This Error Mean?

F18 means the exhaust duct is blocked and the dryer cannot expel hot air safely. Clean the lint filter, the condenser unit (on condenser models), and the full exhaust duct to resolve F18.

Affected Models

  • Miele T1 Dryer
  • Miele T Classic Dryer
  • Miele Condenser Dryer
  • Miele Heat Pump Dryer
  • Miele Vented Dryer

Common Causes

  • Clogged exhaust duct full of lint (most common cause)
  • Heavily soiled lint filter restricting airflow
  • Clogged condenser unit on condenser and heat-pump dryers
  • Blocked outside vent cap on vented models

How to Fix It

  1. Clean the lint filter thoroughly.

Remove the fine mesh lint filter and rinse it under running water until it is completely clear. Miele recommends doing this after every load. Allow it to dry fully before reinserting.

  2. Clean the condenser unit (condenser and heat-pump models).

Open the condenser flap at the bottom-front of the dryer and remove the condenser unit. Rinse it under a tap until the water runs clear, then let it dry fully before reinstalling.

  3. Clear the exhaust duct and outside vent cap.

Disconnect the duct from the back of the dryer and use a vent brush to remove all lint along the full run. Also inspect the outside vent cap for debris, bird nests, or ice in winter.

  4. Run a short test cycle.

After cleaning, plug the dryer back in and run a 15-minute test cycle. If F18 does not return, the blockage was the only issue.

When to Call a Professional

If cleaning all filters and the duct does not clear F18, have a Miele technician inspect the internal airflow path — there may be a blockage in the blower housing.
